MCCF Hosts “Building a Better Future” Event

Planned Giving Seminar for Nonprofits at Swan Lake
Marshall County Community Foundation Hosts
"Building a Better Future" Event May 22

Nonprofit organizations are faced with a world where doing more with less is an everyday occurrence. Planned giving is often an overlooked opportunity to connect loyal supporters with a way to build toward a brighter future. Just one planned gift could feed more families, fund more arts programs, save more animals, shelter more homeless people or, quite simply, make a nonprofit mission a reality. The good news is, planned gifts are appropriate for donors of all means, and it's easier than most people might think to get started.

The Marshall County Community Foundation (MCCF) will host nonprofit organizations across the region at Swan Lake Resort, 5203 Plymouth LaPorte Trail, Plymouth, IN, on Thursday, May 22, from 3-4:30 pm. Anyone interested in learning more about creating lasting legacies and secure revenue streams for nonprofits is invited to attend.

Featured speaker will be Ray Odom, JD, CFP, Senior Vice President and Director of Wealth Transfer Strategies at Northern Trust. Ray is a dynamic and noted speaker with expertise on turning estate planning dread into philanthropic passion. "We are delighted to have Ray come to Marshall County," said MCCF Executive Director, Linda Yoder. "This event will be a great start for those interested in learning more about planned giving or getting new ideas on how to have the conversation."

Northern Trust was selected in 2013 to provide Outsourced CIO services for MCCF. In addition to creating customized investment solutions, the Northern Trust team is committed to helping the Foundation grow by supporting MCCF donors as well. Odom, in his role at Northern Trust, serves as a national subject matter expert on estate planning. He has been an acclaimed speaker on tax, wealth planning, charitable giving and trust administration topics for over 20 years. His current duties involve providing wealth transfer solutions to partners, clients, and professional advisers involved with high net-worth clients that have sensitive family situations and complex financial assets.

The Marshall County Community Foundation reached a new milestone in March 2014 with total assets topping $30 million. As the largest public charity in Marshall County supporting hundreds of charitable organizations and causes through 320 funds, MCCF now distributes back to the community on an annual basis nearly $1 million. The Community Foundation, established in 1991, has distributed well over $10 million since inception to help build stronger communities across the county.

Nonprofits are making a difference in communities every day. Nonprofit board members, directors, staff and volunteers are invited to learn more about how to start a planned giving conversation at the "Building a Brighter Future" event.
