History

108 years ago, the community foundation concept was born in the Midwest, giving rise to a new way of giving and a new vision for the future. Today community foundations number 1,700 worldwide with 700 in the United States.

It has been nearly a quarter of a century since Lilly Endowment launched the GIFT (Giving Indiana Gifts for Tomorrow) initiative and the success in Indiana communities has far exceeded expectations. From 12 community foundations in 1990 to 94 today. From aggregate assets of $30 million to $2 billion, Community Foundations have paid grants totaling more than $851 million each year.

The Marshall County Community Foundation has 383 funds (as of June 30, 2021) supporting activities such as arts and culture, education, parks, places of worship, youth and family, and many more. You may give to an existing fund or start a new one.
