Marshall County Community Foundation Announces Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Recipient

One Marshall County student has been named recipient of a four-year, full-tuition scholarship as the Marshall County Community Foundation 2019 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar. Evan Manges will receive not only full tuition to the Indiana college of his choice, but also a $900.00 yearly stipend for required books and equipment.

Evan Manges is the son of Troy and Melissa Manges of Bremen, IN.  He attends Bremen High School.  Evan is planning to attend Indiana Wesleyan University or Indiana University and will major in Sports Analytics.

For 2019, the local Lilly Scholarship Selection Committee, consisting of Beth Styers, Chair, Dr. Don Balka, Scott Joyner, Karen Schlosser, John Small Jr., Jared Weidner and Barbara Winters, reviewed 15 applications and interviewed three applicants before recommending one finalist and two alternates to the Board of Directors of the Marshall County Community Foundation.  The finalists names were then forwarded to Independent Colleges of Indiana (ICI) , the statewide administrator for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship Program, for final selection of the recipient.   ICI is a nonprofit corporation that represents 30 regionally accredited degree granting, nonprofit, private colleges and universities in the state.

The Lilly Endowment began the scholarship program in 1998  steadfast in its belief that education at all levels is indispensable to the personal, civic and economic well-being of Indiana’s residents and communities.    Indiana ranks among the lowest states in the percentage of residents over the age of 25 with a bachelor’s degree.  There were 143 scholarships awarded statewide.

The mission of the Marshall County Community Foundation is to serve all of Marshall County, its people and its future through the growth and administration of endowment funding and philanthropy.
