As Papa’s celebrates 50 years of serving Marshall County, we’re honored to recognize not only a beloved local business, but also the legacy of one remarkable woman whose values helped shape the success of this local business and continues to impact our communities today.
Marian C. “Marion” McCormack showed her family what determination, compassion, and perseverance look like. While raising four children in the 1960s and 1970s, Marion returned to college in her thirties to pursue her nursing degree. In 1971, she graduated at the top of her class and received the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award—a moment that inspired her family and reflected her unwavering commitment to serving others.
Years later, Marion and her family moved to Culver to join her husband, Jim, in building what would become Papa’s. While continuing her nursing career locally, she also helped guide the family business through its early years. After Jim’s passing, Marion stepped away from nursing to help steady the family and strengthen the restaurant. Her wisdom, leadership, and practical approach helped transform Papa’s into a community institution that has served generations of Marshall County families.
Though Marion passed away in 1997, her legacy lives on through the Marian C. McCormack Nursing Scholarship Fund at the Marshall County Community Foundation. Established by the family behind Papa’s, the fund honors Marion’s passion for nursing and helps support future healthcare professionals pursuing the same calling that meant so much to her.
As we celebrate Papa’s 50th anniversary, we’re reminded that a legacy is about more than what we build—it’s about the lives we touch and the opportunities we create for others. The Marian C. McCormack Nursing Scholarship Fund ensures that Marion’s spirit of service continues to make a difference for future generations.
Congratulations to Papa’s on 50 years of community impact, and thank you for creating a lasting legacy through philanthropy.
