Roger Laramore was a lifelong resident of Knox, graduating from Knox schools in 1932.
He received an athletic scholarship for football, basketball, and baseball, and attended Central Normal College. After graduating college, he returned to Knox to start his teaching career before being interrupted to serve overseas during World War II.
Following his military service, he resumed teaching and coaching at Knox. He later became the principal of Knox High School and assistant superintendent.
In recognition of his 45-year career, family members established the Roger Laramore Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Marshall County Community Foundation to continue his support of the youth of Knox High School.
Scholarship Criteria:
The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship to a Knox High School senior. The applicant must have attended Knox High School for at least two complete years, rank academically in the upper 35% of the graduating class, reside in Washington, California or Center Townships of Starke County, be of good repute and character, and have some financial need. In selection the quality of the following factors shall be considered; high school academic program, school activities, community activities and services, and part-time employment after school or summers. Other factors being equal, preference shall be given to applicants planning to teach in public schools and/or planning to attend a state college or university.
This continuing scholarship will pay a stipend of five hundred dollars ($500.00) for the first year and for their three additional years provided monies are available. Payment of the first stipend shall be after the scholarship administrator receives verification satisfactory grades were earned for the first semester with proof of enrollment for the next semester. This verification shall be copies of grades earned for the first semester and a copy of the class schedule for the next term.&
