Investing in the Scholars of Marshall County
The Marshall County Community Foundation (MCCF) administers more than 192 unique scholarship funds, made possible by the generosity of our donors. These funds range from traditional awards for graduating seniors to scholarships for current college students, working professionals, and those with special circumstances.
In 2025, MCCF awarded 441 scholarships totaling $526,114.92, helping students across Marshall County pursue education and training opportunities that shape their future — and builds a better and brighter for our communities too.
Each scholarship has its own application guidelines, deadlines, and requirements. Be sure to review the instructions for each scholarship carefully before applying.
Argos High School Scholarships
We administer a number of scholarships, which range from the traditional academic and athletic awards to corporate and special circumstances offerings.
Applying for a scholarship is free, so we invite you to spend some time finding opportunities for which you are a good fit. You can learn more about each scholarship by clicking on each of the below scholarship titles.
Alberta Middaugh Memorial Scholarship
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to Argos High School seniors. To be eligible, an applicant must not only be an attendee for at least two complete years at the Argos High School but be a graduate of that high school. The applicant must be a resident of Green or Walnut Township, be of good repute and character, and have some financial need. In selection both quality and quantity of the following factors shall be considered:
- 1. High school academic program
- 2. School activities (including service or the Argos Dollars for Scholars)
- 3. Community activities and services
- 4. Part time employment
- 5. Have been a 4-H and/or FFA member
- Applicants must plan to attend a four year college or trade school. An alternate for the award shall be named. If the awardee declines or becomes ineligible, the alternate, if eligible at the time, shall receive the stipend.
- This scholarship will be a one year scholarship of $250.
Argos High School Class of 1957 Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to graduates of Argos High School, Argos, Indiana. To be eligible an applicant must:
- Be an attendee for at least two complete years at the Argos Community High School, and a graduate of Argos High School, Argos, Indiana.
- Rank academically in the upper 85% of the graduating class.
- Be a resident of Green Township or Walnut Township located in Marshall County, Indiana
- Be of good repute and character.
- Have some financial need.
- Preference shall be given to applicants planning to attend a university, college, or trade school in the state of Indiana.
- An alternate for the award shall be named. If the awardee declines or becomes ineligible, the alternate, if eligible at the time, shall receive the award.
- The Argos High School Class of 1957 is renewable annually to previous recipients as long as all other recipient qualifications are met.
Argos Lions Club Scholarship Fund
- The Argos Lions Club Scholarship Fund was established and initially given to a graduate of the Argos High School Class of 1995 by the membership of the Argos Lions Club.
- The purpose of the fund shall be for the sole use and charitable benefit of the Argos Lions Club in supporting scholarships for graduates of Argos High School according to the criteria established by the Argos Lions Club.
Bruce and Vivian VanDerWeele Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to an Argos High School senior who has been an active volunteer and exhibits leadership.
- Volunteerism is a major criteria for this award and is defined as giving service of free will.
- Applicants must have been an attendee for at least two complete school years at Argos Community High School. The applicant must reside in the Town of Argos, Green Township, or Walnut Township.
- A minimum $500 scholarship is to be provided to a graduating senior at Argos High School with opportunity to renew each year, as long as the student remains in good standing with an institution of higher education, and on a continuous path to a bachelor’s degree.
Carl D. and Tanya L. Stockberger Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of this fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to a graduating seniors at Argos High School, in Marshall County, Indiana. Applicants are to be well-rounded students who exhibit interest and explore a variety of subjects, fields, and activities and have a financial need. Preference will be given to students having a financial need and pursuing a career in the trades.
- This scholarship may be renewable to previous recipients.
Donald L. Mahoney Memorial Scholarship
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to an Argos High School Senior.
- The applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and plan to attend an Indiana State-funded school to study science or math.
- This scholarship may be renewable annually to previous recipients.
Ella M. Leeper Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to Argos High School seniors.
- The recipients shall be residents of Walnut or Green townships.
- The selection shall be made from eligible students who apply for the scholarships and the basis of determination shall be:
- 20% grades
- 30% character
- 50% need-based
- Recipients must enroll and remain a full time qualified student in a college, university, or other institution of higher learning.
- The amount awarded will be left up to the Dollars for Scholars committee to decide and the award will be given at the beginning of the second semester that they enter a school of higher learning.
Gladys and Ron Bird Memorial Fund
- This scholarship will be awarded annually to one or more graduating seniors from Argos High School with a GPA of 2.8 or above.
- Preference will be given to a student soccer athlete.
H. Irene Mahoney Memorial Scholarship
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to an Argos High School Senior.
- The applicant must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and plan to attend an Indiana State-funded school to study English, Speech, or Spanish.
- This scholarship may be renewable to previous recipients.
Helen G. and Gerald M. Hess Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of the Helen G. and Gerald M. Hess Scholarship Fund is to provide an annual scholarship to one or more Argos High School seniors.
J. O. Thompson Memorial Scholarship
- The Argos community has a strong and proud history of military service. The patriotism of the community inspires its young. As an Air Force Pilot, Lieutenant Thompson was proud to serve his country in a way that was both challenging and exciting. His sudden accidental death was a striking example of the dangers of the position and it was devastating to his family and friends.
- The J. O. Thompson Memorial Scholarship was initiated shortly after his passing by members of his 1965 Argos High School graduating class. It is maintained today by the Marshall County Community Foundation.
- The scholarship helps fund an Argos High School graduate attending Purdue University and studying Agriculture.
J. Ward and Margaret M. Leeper
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to Argos High School seniors.
- The recipients shall be residents of Walnut or Green townships.
- The selection shall be made from eligible students who apply for the scholarships and the basis of determination shall be:
- 20% grades
- 30% character
- 50% need-based
- Recipients must enroll and remain a full time qualified student in a college, university, or other institution of higher learning.
- The amount given will be left to the Dollars for Scholars committee to decide and the award will be given at the beginning of the second semester that they enter a school of higher learning.
James H. Wysong Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to Argos High School seniors.
Jan and Ted Chittum Scholarship
- The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship to one or more Argos High School seniors who intend to major in education, communication, or technical studies.
Jennings Family Scholarship Fund
- Scholarship fund in memory of Joy Jennings and is available to graduating seniors who have demonstrated a strong work ethic and have been actively engaged in athletics, music, or FFA as a senior at Argos High School.
Jo Ellen Castleman/ Hull Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to an Argos High School senior.
- The applicant must be a graduating senior who has been active in Vocal and/or Instrumental Music or in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and who is presently in good standing in at least one of these organizations.
- If no suitable application is received from students in either of the two categories, the award may be made to a worthy candidate.
Lance McLeod Burns Argos Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to a graduating Argos High School senior. An important consideration will be financial need.
- The applicant must have been an attendee for at least two complete school years at Argos Community High School.
- The applicant must reside in the Town of Argos, Green Township, or Walnut Township.
- The scholarship may be renewed each year as long as the student remains in good standing with an Indiana public higher education institution.
Madison and Elizabeth Stephenson Scholarship
- The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship to Argos High School seniors.
Max and Lois Edmonds Scholarship Fund
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to the graduates of Argos High School, Argos, Indiana, who have attended Argos High School for at least their junior and senior year.
- The scholarship recipient(s) must reside in Green Township or Walnut Township, located in Marshall County, Indiana.
- The scholarship recipient(s) must have achieved a final cumulative high school grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- The scholarship recipient(s) must have demonstrated and documented financial need as determined by the Scholarship Advisory Committee.
- The scholarship may not be used by recipient(s) to obtain post-secondary education from colleges and universities offering courses exclusively online, or to pay for any courses offered through internet services.
- The Max and Lois Edmonds Scholarship is renewable annually to previous recipients at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee as long as all other recipient qualifications are met.
Phoebe Heishman-Lykowski Scholarship
- The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to graduates of Argos High School, Argos, Indiana.
- The recipients must intend to pursue studies in the field of Communications, which may also include Speech, English, or Journalism.
- The Phoebe Heishman-Lykowski Scholarship is renewable annually to previous recipients at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee as long as all other recipient qualifications are met.
