Marshall County Community Foundation administers a number of scholarships, from traditional awards for graduating seniors to those geared towards current students, professionals, and other special circumstances.

Each scholarship has its own application guidelines, deadlines, and application process, so please be sure to read the instructions of the scholarship you’re applying for carefully.

Other Scholarships and Graduate Scholarships

We administer a number of scholarships, which range from the traditional academic and athletic awards to corporate and special circumstances offerings. Applying for a scholarship is free, so we invite you to spend some time finding opportunities for which you are a good fit.

Bowen Family Medical Scholarship Fund
  • The purpose of this fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to a Marshall County resident accepted into an accredited school of medicine to prepare for a career in rural family medicine. The intent of this scholarship is to prepare physicians for family practice in a rural Indiana community. 
  • For purposes of this scholarship rural Indiana is defined as Indiana Communities excluding the cities of Indianapolis, Evansville, Fort Wayne, South Bend, and the northwest Indiana counties of Lake and Porter. 
  • The applicant for this medical school scholarship must be able to establish Marshall County residency to qualify. This may be determined by such factors as family residence within Marshall County and or graduation from a Marshall County high school. 
  • The Bowen Family Medical Scholarship Fund is renewable annually to previous recipients based upon the successful medical school advancement of the recipient and at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee. 
  • Should the scholarship be granted to a newly recruited family practice physician in the form of medical school debt reduction, the funding is also renewable at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee. 
  • The application for this scholarship will open May 10, 2026  and will close on June 10, 2026.
  • The purpose of this scholarship is to provide one or more annual nursing scholarships to a graduate of a school corporation in Marshall County — including Argos Community Schools, Bremen Public Schools, Culver Community School Corporation, John Glenn School Corporation, Plymouth Community School Corporation, Triton School Corporation, and Union-North United School Corporation. 
  • Applicants must be a third or fourth year student enrolled in a nursing program. 
  • Preference will be given to a single parent or student in need and the award may be used for the following priority needs: 1) tuition, 2) housing, or 3) books. An essay will be required of each applicant.
  • The Chapman/Wiers Nursing Scholarship is renewable annually to previous recipients. 
  • The application for this scholarship will open May 10, 2026  and will close on June 10, 2026.
  • The purpose of this fund is to provide one or more annual scholarships to fourth year veterinary students attending Purdue University who desire to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. 
  • Scholarships shall be awarded based upon the following preferences (in order): 
    • Recipients who demonstrate an interest in bovine reproduction.
    • Recipients who demonstrate an interest in bovine medicine. 
    • Recipients who demonstrate an interest in food animal medicine
    • Recipients who are a fourth year veterinary student seeking a DVM degree.

  • The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship to a student(s) attending Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana who desires to become a Lutheran Minister. 
  • The applicant must be from the Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth, Indiana, followed by applicants from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rochester, Indiana or St. Paul’s Lutheran in Bremen, Indiana.
  • Concordia Theological Seminary administers this scholarship process. If you have been accepted into the seminary school, please contact Concordia Theological Seminary for more information on how to apply for the Herschell and Gladys Umbaugh Scholarship.

  • This scholarship is in memory of Jeanette Rarick who worked at the high school for twenty-eight years, and retired in June of 2016. She was an aid at the high school and will be remembered most for tutoring high school students in math. She passed away May 17, 2017, from cancer. 
  • The purpose of this scholarship is to honor her memory by providing a scholarship for one or more graduating seniors from Bremen High School, or a former Bremen High School graduate who is attending and is in good standing at a qualified school.
  • Scholarship Criteria:
    • The purpose of the fund is to provide one or more scholarships to graduates of Bremen High School.
    • The applicant must intend to study at either a two-year Vocational or Technical school, or a four-year College or University. 
    • Preference may be given to students who have shown a desire to improve or help others improve their math skills while a student at Bremen High School.
  • The Jeanette Rarick Memorial Scholarship may be renewable annually to previous recipients at the discretion of the Scholarship Advisory Committee as long as all other recipient qualifications are met. Former graduates of Bremen High School who meet the qualifications (in section above) are also eligible for consideration as well.
  • The application for this scholarship will open May 10, 2026  and will close on June 10, 2026.
  • The purpose of the fund is to provide an annual scholarship to a Marshall County resident attending Purdue University. 
  • The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. 
  • The applicant must be a current Purdue student as long as they have not received the scholarship more than 4 times. 
  • Preference will be given for those who are a first generation student or if the applicant participates in any of the Purdue Musical Organizations (any band, choir, performance group, etc.). 
  • The Karen Schlosser Memorial Scholarship is not renewable to previous recipients. 
  • The application for this scholarship will open May 10, 2026  and will close on June 10, 2026.
  • Resident of Marshall County and shall be a graduate of a Marshall County High School.
  • Must be a full time student enrolled at an accredited institution of Higher learning (college equivalent)
  • Renewable for up to maximum period of five years
  • Include transcripts
  • The application for this scholarship will open May 10, 2026  and will close on June 10, 2026.
  • Scholarships 
    • One time award (non-renewable)
    • Number of scholarships awarded based on sponsorship and funding available
    • Awards range from $250 – $1,000 depending on criteria of sponsor
  • Eligibility 
    • Apply senior year of high school 
    • Applicants must be planning some post high school study or training (i.e., college, trade school, or short course). Does not have to be in Indiana.
    • Completed applications are to be submitted electronically in PDF format through 4HOnline or delivered to the County Extension Office on an electronic storage media device (flash drive, etc.). A number of free PDF converters are available on the internet. The local Purdue Extension Office can also convert documents to PDF format. The required information for each completed application is to be included in one (1) electronic file. 
    • Completed applications are due January 25, 2021
  • Judging Criteria 
    • Based largely on 4-H record with a small amount on other work and activities.
  • Notification 
    • Winners will be notified at appropriate time and place between March 1st and May 15th after judging. 
  • Receipt of Money 
    • Money may be requested upon completing one term of study. Proof of this must be shown in the form of a school grade report or completion certificate. Letters will be sent December 1 following the announcement for the recipient to claim. Claim period or request for extension is December 1st through February 15th. 
    • Checks will be made payable directly to the college, university or post-secondary institution unless the request is accompanied by a completion certificate, in which case the check may be made payable to the individual. Scholarship funds coming from Purdue University accounts will be transferred to the student’s account with the Purdue Bursar’s Office. 
    • Award recipients have two (2) years following high school graduation to claim the money unless special circumstances merit a longer period.
    • Scholarships will be awarded directly through the Indiana 4-H Foundation
  • The Samuel Elliott Perkins IV Memorial Scholarship was created through an estate gift from Mary Collins Perkins in memory of her husband for the purpose of providing scholarships to Marshall County resident students pursuing a degree from Purdue University.
  • The amounts of scholarships and the numbers of winners will depend on the number and quality of applicants. Additional money will be available in the following years. 
  • Students reapplying for a scholarship should note the eligibility requirements.
  • Applications for students currently attending Purdue open May 10, 2025 and will be due by 11:59 pm June 10, 2025.
  • Eligibility Criteria
    • Must be either a permanent Marshall County resident or a previous winner of the Perkins scholarship.
    • Must be a full-time student attending Purdue University (any campus) seeking a Purdue degree.
    • Must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA (most recent transcript must be provided).
    • May not receive the scholarship more than 4 times total (Scholarship award does not have to be consecutive years and may extend past four years if pursuing veterinary science or a pharmacy degree).
  • The scholarship is non-renewable, although students may apply each year.
